An Overview of the University

The Assam Skill Institution (ASU) is a public state school in Mangaldai, Assam, in the Darrang district. It was established in 2021 under the Assam Skill University Act, 2020.  It wants to be the first skill-based university in Northeast India by combining vocational training with higher education, research, and entrepreneurship. It has a ₹1,000 crore investment and help from the ADB.  The university is on roughly 83 acres and can hold about 10,000 students.  The Chief Minister of Assam, who is also the Governor, is the Chancellor. Vice Chancellor Subhash Chandra Das was chosen in August 2021.  ASU solves the skills shortages in Assam since many engineering graduates and ITI certificate holders don't have jobs (less than 35% of them) and the courses are out of date.  It offers vocational diploma and certificate courses as well as regular degree programs through collaborations, such the Memorandum of Understanding with Sainik Welfare & ADB. The focus is on employability, hands-on labs, and internships.

Requirements and Admission for the 2025–2026 Academic Year

 Qualifications:

•  Diploma: Science and Math in Class X
•  UG (B.Tech/B.Sc, Integrated): Class XII (any stream for certificate courses; science stream for B.Tech) 
•  PG (MBA, MTTM): Acknowledged graduation; national exams (CAT/MAT/XAT/GMAT/ATMA) and a minimum of 50% (45% for SC/ST) are required for the MBA.

•  MBA: 30 spots available; CAT, MAT, XAT, etc. accepted. 
•  Ph.D. programs in IT, mechanical engineering, and applied management are also offered; GATE eligibility is required.
